Now that you've got a frame for what you want, you can begin to put together a system to guarantee your success.
I'm simply amazed by the way humans are created. The thalamus is the part of the brain that controls behavior and perception - what we pay attention to and what we do about it.
Because there's simply too much information in this world to take in all at once, the thalamus filters out everything that's not important. The things that are important are the stimuli that grab our attention when a situation looks like the thing we've been thinking about.
It's called the emotional refractory period, a phenomenon discovered by Dr Paul Ekman.
It's why when you pick out a particular car you want to buy, do all the research on it, pick out the color, you go to the dealer to pick out the car and sign the papers, drive off the lot and what happens?
Every person in town bought the same car. All the sudden you start seeing your car all over town. Different colors, different owners, but you see them everywhere.
With your mental movie, the thalamus starts to pick out all the areas that look like opportunities to make it real. Instead of a car, you might see an opportunity to learn a new skill (like my upcoming class 🤔) or a gym membership special or a person that looks like they could be your person or you could get fired, become homeless…there's any number of possibilities, the point is these are moving you closer towards your goal.
You cannot lose sight of that.
Make your list.
Write out six goals. One for each area of life:
Six things you want concretely done this year to match that movie.
Make it happen.
